HOCKEY AT IT'S BEST..........

ELGIN MIDDLESEX CHIEFS AAA MINOR MIDGET

                  2009 OHL CUP

                      FINALIST

This team went from being one loss away from elimination at the hands of the Lambton Jr Sting in the opening round of the Alliance playoffs, to being one win away from winning the OHL Cup! I think the phrase "what a ride" sums it up.  This team took us on a journey that none of us will soon forget and has formed friendships that will probably last a lifetime. The OHL Cup was a great success for this group. I think they will realise that winning a silver medal is a great accomplishment, and one the whole team and organisation will be proud of.  To finish your season, and AAA career, in a tournament of this calibre with victories in every game but one is phenomenal.  And, not to use excuses, to do it considering the various "conditions" that some of our players were playing with is even more remarkable and speaks volumes about the character and heart of the players that make up this team.  These boys came into this tournament with a goal and a mission in mind and nothing was going to get in their way.  To see their desire and effort at achieving this goal first hand was incredible. These guys had absolutely nothing left to give when the final buzzer sounded and should be commended on the class and character they showed right until the end. They represented the Elgin Middlesex Chiefs and the Alliance with pride and showed exactly what is required to play "Chiefs Hockey".

                              CHAMPIONS

Coach Matt Jenner explains his team’s success this way, “A key to our success this year has been two things, competing hard, with discipline.  Looking at our league play, the team proved throughout the season and in the playoffs that they were the best team and they were the best team because they had the best players, team chemistry and leadership

One of the things that this sport can and should do for a person is to make him into a cultivated sportsman, someone who can mix with other people, who can analyze a situation, who is self-critical and self-disciplined-someone who is a human being in other words.
